Of a distinguished intellectual, artistic and banking family in Berlin, this great composer grew up in a privileged environment. Felix Mendelssohn was a romantic. This shows clearly in his orchestral style and his fondness for program music of places, events or personalities. During the nineteenth century, Felix s organ and choral music was ranked among the best. Based on the life of Felix Mendelssohn this documentary styled film illustrates his String Quartet No. 2. Musicians, period décor, actors and dancers recreate the refined world of the composer.

This unique film uncovers the keys of the composer's life: his happy childhood, the salons hosted by Mendelssohn, his close relationship with Goethe and the relation between the composer and his sister Fanny, also a giant composer.

I personally found this biography, the best of all the biographies proposed in these DVDs. It's more humane and warmer than any other. It makes you to want to have had seen him.

Now, a question. How comes on Both Mendelssohn and Bach who are both Germans, no German audio is proposed? The guys at Brilliant aren't brilliant by their intelligence.
